Is Prenatal Plus DHA Complete?
The first few months of pregnancy are pretty difficult. (Actually to be completely honest, none of it’s a walk in the park!) When you feel nauseous and tired all the time nothing seems to work. My friend recommended that I suck on life savers throughout the day but they just seemed to make matters worse.
Most prenatal vitamins make that whole nausea thing even worse. In fact, even when I’m not pregnant prenatal vitamins make me sick within just a short amount of time. That’s why I set out to discover a prenatal vitamin that I could keep down for longer than ten minutes because I knew that my body was not getting the nutrition it needed if I couldn’t even keep the vitamin down for a half an hour.
Prenatal Plus DHA has a “Mothers Blend.” This includes ingredients such as ginger which have been proven to be effective at reducing nausea. And I have to admit that a blend with ginger makes all the difference. The only thing that seems to help throughout the day is keeping ginger snaps next to me but when there is ginger in the blend I don’t even have to do that!
Key Nutrients
There are many more benefits than simply ginger. They have included DHA which has made it worth even more. It could be beneficial because it can increase your baby’s ability to develop a strong nervous system. Furthermore, it can improve your mood.
DHA Neuromins, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Bioflavenoid, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Niacinaminde, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid, Biotin, Choline Bitartrate, Inositol, PABA, Vitamin K, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Selenium, Chromium, Boron, Potassium, Iodine, Red Raspberry Leaf, Meadowsweet, Ginger Root, Chamomile Other Ingredients: Puremountain water, pineapple juice, white grape juice, natural pineapple, coconut, apple, banana and orange-mango flavors, and potassium sorbate
Prenatal Plus DHA Safety
There is more vitamin A in Prenatal Plus DHA than I would like to see because when you have more than 10,000 IUs of this nutrient you more than double the risk of your baby being born with birth defects.
Prenatal Plus DHA Pros
- Iron and folic acid are included in adequate amounts
- DHA is included
- Helps to reduce nausea
- Can be easily absorbed by your body
Prenatal Plus DHA Cons
- Not enough calcium
- Too much Vitamin A
- Probiotics are not included
- Only lasts 16 days
Should You Use Prenatal Plus DHA?
If you are going to be using a prenatal vitamin for several months (or years if you choose to use it even when you’re not pregnant) it’s really inconvenient to have to get it every two weeks. Prenatal Plus DHA does help to quell nausea but that isn’t enough to make this one of the top prenatal vitamins. It’s good that they have most everything you need during pregnancy but I have since found top prenatal vitamins to be more effective at providing everything my baby needs and all the extras including a probiotic blend.
